An alebrije is a Mexican spirit animal, like you see in ‘Coco.’ I designed a character in the style of the skeletons from ‘Coco’ – Pablito – along with his alebrije Galeno. This was a really fun challenge, and really pushed me to use colors and patterns in ways that I haven’t done before.
As alebrijes can be amalgams of many other creatures (and colors) a lot of iteration went into deciding on the final combination of parts and patterns.
